The story of Nathaniel McHorney's 1901 trip to Ecuador.

January 11th, 1901

The page for Friday, January 11th says:

Boy late at breakfast and quit early.
Bishop McCable & N. McHorney alone
at table firstly 7 indisposed.
Aother glorious day - sea choppy
My first shave at sea - good one too.
Noon: Lat 27° 19' N
      Long 74° 11' W
Run 277 Miles.
Saw flying fish. Boy failed
to come to lunch - squeamish
myself. 9 indisposed and away
from the table. Cross sea and short.
Wind about 20 miles an hour
No boy. late at supper for he is hungry.
Boat dipping much.
Rather the worse for wear myself
to bed at 8 p. m.
Considered a very fair day at sea.

  1. John Allred said:

Shooting the Sun at local apparent noon, it seems. Back when sailors knew how to navigate by the starts — very nice!

  2. Could it be:

“alone at table – firstly – 7 indisposed”? You see 9 indisposed later.

    and “First shave at sea”
