January 19th, 1901

Morning wet. Pass Isla La Gima
at 8 A.M. Ot tales journalistic
instinct to keep a diary.
Awakened about 6 A.M. dreaming of
the death of "Bob Davis" of Jersey City (crying)
Made an address of lamentation - climax
took greatly. Some large auditorium began
nervously. told them, I relied principally on
my nerve to carry me thro. Saw Willy
Davis, asked if his father was insured.
Later on, McArolle hailed me - he was with
some outing party - had a very large pig
on his lap for a prize. I offended, by
asking "Were there not enough present" -
joke did not take well. Dreamland
refutation of my Davis speech.
Slept most of the afternoon
Boat light difrfring much
Passed La Gima Isle. Come to
anchor 8 p.m. 10 Miles off Tumaco
Did not retire until 12 midnight.
Much news about war - Liberal
sentiment very strong.

  • That was quite a dream!
  • I don’t know what the word after “boat light” is.
  • Tumaco is a city on the southern Pacific coast of Colombia.
  • I couldn’t find anything about “Isla La Gima” (or Girna/Grina). However, there are a pair of islands that they might have passed which are called “Isla Gorgona” and “Isla Gorgonilla
