The story of Nathaniel McHorney's 1901 trip to Ecuador.

February 11th, 1901

The page for Monday, February 11th says:

Heard Manuel's alarm clock at 5 A.M.
Dreaming of Fr. Carroll. He sent me
for Bill Rickerich and J Gormley to
come out to Newsark, and play (only)
5 games of hand-ball.
At work at 7:15 A.M. Start Junior
on his tracing with cloth map. C.G.F to have it.
Mr. D.C.S. talks much about affairs in
general - thinks C.G.F. intends to play a
game a la Lord's management being
practically the same now. viz the Gomez
boys were here then. And now have practi
cally done the Sapago Grande work.
I've decided to write Mr. S.A. Coats that
his family's good name is at stake unless
a visit by them (some one) to see for themselves.
After supper McKenzie notifies MR. S. to
try an arrange to let him go Tuesday
or Wednesday - A Clean-up on hand too
to catch mail at Esmereldas for Quayaquil
Monday next. Mr. Stapleton in a quandary
McK - a peculiar man - promised to have
clean up on to-morrow.
Dreamed of Sister Teresa de Sales this
AM was overjoyed - C.G.F. asked me how
I was progressing with a/cs - good.
Rain today. No money for McKenzie.

Questions and comments:

  • There was a Harry Rickerich and a Jim Gormley mentioned on January 8th.
  • This is not the first time he’s dreamed of Teresa de Sales (Jan 20/25) and she is mentioned on Jan 27th as well.
