The story of Nathaniel McHorney's 1901 trip to Ecuador.

February 21st, 1901

The page for Thursday, February 21st says:

Arose at 7 A.M. At work 7:30 A.M.
C.G. Franklyn comes about 9 A.M.
All hands at books. August cash will
not come out even. Mr. Franklyn tells
me to do it a certain way - it will show
the deficit. Today I gave my proxy to
Mr. Franklyn in as much as Mr. Stapleton
was willing. Mrs. C.G.F presents me with
a book.
Got a/cs so that they can be posted in
due order. Worked until 5 p.m.
Mr. D.C. Stapleton informs me he told
Mr. Franklyn he is sending for his brother
Gerald. Sapago Grande next to be looked after.
Day very pleasant - 2nd day without
smoking.
Gradually getting used to it or is it
because mail is due tomorrow or Sunday
Gerald not likely to get here as quickly
as Downey.
Thermometer drops as low as 78°
each P.M.

(as always, you can click on the image to get a larger view)

Questions and comments:

  • Who is Downey?
  • That answers my question about Gerald Stapleton from 2/16 – he is D.C.’s brother.
