The story of Nathaniel McHorney's 1901 trip to Ecuador.

March 6th, 1901

The page for Wednesday, March 6th says:

At office 6:10 A.M.
Working at pay rolls yet.
Men at times insolent for money.
From 3 to 5 p.m. hard at it
cleaning out room No 3 - 4 men going
steadily. Mr. Stapleton knows just
how much work to lay out for this kind
of a workman.
Canoe arrived at 5:10 p.m. but did
not bring mail though it could have
time to have received it.
Boy much better. Am over my scare.
Wonder how Anna is getting along.
Mr. D.C. Stapleton took cold yesterday
at Sapayo Grande.

Questions and comments:

  • I wonder if Nathaniel will think about whether “Mr. Stapleton knows just how much work to lay out for this kind of a workman” applies to himself as well.
