The story of Nathaniel McHorney's 1901 trip to Ecuador.

March 15th, 1901

The page for Friday, March 15th says:

At office 5:40 A.M.
Mr. Stapleton did not get of for Quasamambi
Mine to-day. Sent me word by note to
send 4 men to work at Mine to-night. Did so.
I learn he is sick up there.
Mr. Moore to go there to-morrow.
In full charge of the office and general
supervision during absence of Mr. Stapleton
Mr. A. L. Moore sleeping at General Manager's
house for protection.
No mail leaves to-day. I wonder when
To-day the hottest yet. 98° at 1:30 p.m.
Raining to-night.

St. Claire Moore gives Robt. Bennett full Day
when he only worked 1/2 day.
That thing would not go with me.

Too much interested I guess.
Why cannot I do only as little as some.
One invariably gets the worst of it.

Think of foreman reading books while his
men work.
