The story of Nathaniel McHorney's 1901 trip to Ecuador.

March 18th, 1901

The page for Monday, March 18th says:

Up at 5:20 A.M. to get Brace & Bit for
carpenter Russell. Men slow in getting
to work. Dance last night at Playa de Oro
Work till 11 A.M. Go over to talk over
matters with Mr. Stapleton at Quasamambi
Mr. Stapleton in accord with what I
have done a la Mr. A. L. Moore.
Boy takes Mr. Moore over to Sajado
Pipe Line and back by Noon.
Another 98° day in the shade.
Sun probably as high as 120° - Whew!
This gold mining makes a fellow
think hard.
Boy gave no selections tonight on phono-
graph. Pleased all hands - 4 of us
and the watchman. Night very hot
and dry. No mail left as yet. Hear of
indians wanting to leave here for home.
No pay. Well, I wonder how it will
all end. My faith is alone in the
Blessed Virgin - so have patience with
your trials. Only for a short time.
All is smooth and harmonious again
Thank God!
