The story of Nathaniel McHorney's 1901 trip to Ecuador.

March 19th, 1901

The page for Tuesday, March 19th says:

At office 5:45 A.M.
Work until 11 A.M. Mr. Moore
enquiring about the bond issue -
3 of use don't know where we are at.
Day very hot. Mr. Stapleton at work,
Mr. Moore at his report. I at my desk.
Canoe came up with lumber.
Sent off the mail of Mar 9th.
At office until 8:30 waiting for return
of Pilot who had gone up to Quasamambi
Mine to interview Mr. Stapleton.
Much excitement as it was
a mail day. Disappointed - no mail.

Mr. Ford, U.S. District Attorney, San Francisco,
Wm. Magee, Real Estate, " "
Very close friends of A. L. Moore.

Mr. Magee gave on January 17th a Barometer
to Mr. Moore - cost $20.

Sorry he now left his old employers so
cold blooded, and dirty, after working for
them for 4 years.

Questions and comments:

  • Tirey L. Ford was the Attorney General of California from 1898-1902. I don’t know if this is the Mr. Ford that Nathaniel was referring to.
  • William Henry Magee married Emily Frances Tibbey in San Francisco on June 10, 1901.
  • And there was a William Magee who was a witness in a burglary trial on Sept 8, 1900.
  • I don’t know who Nathaniel is referring to when he said “he left his old employers” – Magee?
