The story of Nathaniel McHorney's 1901 trip to Ecuador.

March 20th, 1901

The page for Wednesday, March 20th says:

Up and at office 5:05 A.M.
Fixing up men with materials for Mr.
Stapleton. Roman Aranjo had be at
work at 6 A.M.
Things all awry when Mr. D. C. Stapleton
goes away.
Mr. A. L. Moore off to Quasamambi.
Goes to Nimbi on Friday next.
Not inclined to work much to-day
very low spirited.
Little troubles annoy me easily.
I guess I am interiorly worried
for loosing time being away from my
Anna.
Young Moore trading off clothing
shoes, slippers, etc. to the storekeeper.
Sharp dealer, too.
Men tell him that for it, we will be
hooted when leaving the property.
He talks about coming back and
cleaning out the whole gang if they
do.

Questions and comments:

  • This is the first mention of Roman Aranjo, I think.
  • “Hooted”?
