The story of Nathaniel McHorney's 1901 trip to Ecuador.

March 22nd, 1901

The page for Friday, March 22nd says:

At office 5:45 A.M.
Mr Stapleton comes from Quasamambi
to go and look over Meisner's work at
Sajado. Return at 12:30 p.m. 2 cups of
tea until now. Dieting with a vengeance.
Mr. Moore again talks freely of N.Y.
office treating him in such a dishonest
way. Ed Woodruff his boyhood friend,
lawyer at 120 Broadway, N.Y. City.
He is to call on Franklyn, Ward, and
Coats - then visit 31 Nassau St.
Again another day of low spirits.
Time is slow in passing. Though I
earnestly try to busy myself with a/cs.
Much earnest thought of God. Asking
for the grace of patience.
Thuner tonight.
Truly a country to make a man
Oh for Anna to cheer me on.
Newcomer in our town. Mr. D.C. Stapleton
questioned her closely. Afraid of dysentery
attack on this camp.
Saw pickle from the pork bottled by the
cook from Quasamambi Mine to be used
instead of salt. Malo! Malo.
Early days threw even the salt away.
