The page for Sunday, April 21st says:
At office 6:00 A.M. hear Mr. Stapleton is very man. All hands refused to work on Sunday. One thing they all object to doing - Working on Sunday. Rain fall 1 30/100 past 24 hours. Dispatched mail to-day to Anna, Susie, Maria and Sister Teresa. I wonder if Anna will understand it was of her I was dreaming when I put it on a wrong letter. Though I think I tore the sheet from Adelaide's letter. Hear much talk about the lack of water from Sapayo when 3 or 4 days of dry weather ensues. During heavy rains Angostura and Huesito furnish all that is necessary. And now the Sapayo water is a menace to the line during the past 4 days. Good watchmen essential or up goes the work done. Russell, carpenter, is much exercised. Read my Tomas a' Kempis much. Only 50 men at window today. Had a change of fresh pork at tea. Cayapas indians brought it to camp. Many hands trying to get silver money to buy some. Think I have it. I am as poor as they are !!!
