The story of Nathaniel McHorney's 1901 trip to Ecuador.

May 7th, 1901

The page for Tuesday, May 7th says:

At office 6 A.M.
Mr. G.G. Stapleton returns from his trip.
Caught cold last night at Quasamambi.
I bring over my medicine. Sufficiently well
to come to supper. 2 small breaks in canal.
Delay of washing at Quasamambi the result.
Day hot. Thunder and lightning to-night.
Last night saw as many as 20 stars.
Just thinking of the exciting balandra
trip - keeling over the sloop.
No canoes up as yet. Refused to eat
pork - beans low. Rice soon to be our
staple article. Chocolate growing good here.
Boy cheers me much.
Rather a blue day of it. How about
Versailles, Kentucky.
My work in good shape.
Will be glad to receive mail.
Must need pray for patience.
Am so thankful for God's many
blessings to me.
